The unfortunate connection between teddy bears and adult’s romance is based on years of marketing manipulations… For years we’ve been led to believe that women like to get teddy bears from men as a romantic gesture, and when I say “we” I mean both men, and women.
Each year, weeks before Valentine’s Day, teddy bears hire the best PR firm in the history of the universe to brainwash couples to associate love and romance with bears and chocolate, preferably drown in girly cheesy red and pink colors.
Now here’s the real truth: No grown up woman wants to receive a stuffed animal from her lover. In fact, I’m almost positive that no grown up woman wants to receive stuffed animals from anyone, but let’s stick to the original subject… so how did we get it wrong?
Women do want their men to be romantic and that’s 100% true and always will be. The problem starts when those evil marketers fooled men to believe that if they want to be romantic they should get the girl a furry bear and a heart-shaped box of chocolate.
A girl who receives those from her guy is super excited about the gesture but at the same time finds the actual items cheesy and not romantic… She probably feels like it’s first Valentine’s Day in high school all over again, it doesn’t make her feel like a grown up, attractive woman… BUT she will never, ever, tell him that.
She wants to encourage her guy to be romantic and do thoughtful things for her, so she makes him feel great about the whole thing.
“Well… I made her happy, didn’t I… Note to self: girls love teddy bears and chocolate. repeat if GUY wants GIRL=happy. save. “.
See the problem?
If a girl shows even a tad bit of disappointment, this will most likely translate to “Result = GIRL not happy. being romantic = failed. repeat = NEVER. save.” and we don’t want that to happen… The real conclusion should be: “Being romantic = always. bears and chocolate = not romantic. to try instead = romantic gifts that women really love. save.”
That’s it, gentlemen. How your women really feel about teddy bears but will never tell you. That’s my job.
Romance on a budget? no problem! these amazing gifts are all under $50:
